Dr. Sidney Hemming
is an Associate Professor at Columbia University/Lamont-Doherty
Earth Observatory since 1994. As an Associate Professor in Earth
& Environmental Sciences her fields of interest include geochronology,
sedimentary geochemistry, paleoclimate, and continental crust evolution
– rocks lie at the heart of her research in geochemistry.
This environmental interest takes Sidney all over the world. She
has covered the globe including Antarctica and China.
Sidney works closer to home when she is teaching courses at Columbia
University and has a long list of publications to her name.
Sidney holds a PhD from SUNY, Master of Science from Tulane and
a Bachelor of Science from Midwestern University. She resides in
New York City with her husband Gary who shares not only her passion
for science but office space at the Institute. Sidney was born and
brought up in Texas. She has a twin sister who is also a scientist.
