Bridge Traffic Switch To Take Place Weekend Of November 21, 2003

Connecticut - Connecticut Department of Transportation officials
have announced that traffic on Route 15, both northbound and southbound,
will be relocated to the new Stage 1 Sikorsky Bridge over the Housatonic
River, on Friday, November 21, 2003, beginning at 9:00PM. The traffic
switch will continue over the weekend through Monday, November 24,
2003 at 6:00AM.
Beginning at
9:00PM on Friday, November 21, northbound traffic will be relocated
to the new bridge. This work will include lane closures and short
term traffic stoppages to allow for setting of median barrier and
line striping. Completion of this portion of the traffic switch
is expected by Saturday morning, November 22 at approximately 8:00AM.
At 8:00AM on
Saturday, November 22, work will proceed to relocate southbound
traffic to the new bridge. This work will include lane closures
and short term traffic stoppages to allow for crossover construction,
setting median barrier and line striping. Completion of this portion
of the work is expected by early evening on Sunday, November 23,
but no later than 6:00AM on Monday, November 24, 2003.
The work schedule
is based on the best available information at this time. Minor variations
are anticipated as the work proceeds.
Please allow
for extra travel time during this phase of the bridge reconstruction
and proceed with caution through this, and any other, construction
work zone.
The entire Sikorsky Bridge Replacement Project is expected to be
completed by December 2005.
