DOT Announces Daytime Merritt Parkway Lane Closures To Begin Monday, September 12, 2005

Norwalk, Connecticut – Connecticut Department of Transportation officials have announced that daytime lane closures and brief traffic stops on the northbound and southbound Merritt Parkway , in the vicinity of Exit 40, are scheduled to begin on or about Monday, September 12 and continue through October 3, 2005 . The lane closures and traffic stops are required for drilling and blasting rock in association with the reconstruction of Interchange 40 at Main Avenue . Traffic stops will not exceed 10 minutes at a time, and are required to ensure the safety of motorists during blasting.

Daytime lane closures are as follows:

  • Merritt Parkway southbound: right lane may be closed anytime from 10:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Thursday and 10:00am to 2:00pm on Friday.
  • Merritt Parkway northbound: one lane may be closed anytime from 9:00am to 2:00pm Monday through Thursday only (no lane closures on Friday).
  • Main Avenue : one lane in each direction may be closed from 9:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday.
  • Creeping Hemlock: one lane in each direction may be closed from 10:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday.

Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and proceed with caution through this and all other construction work zones.

The Merritt Parkway Interchange Project, Phase 1, involves the reconstruction of Interchange 40 at Main Avenue to improve the geometry of on and off ramps and improve traffic operations on Main Avenue in Norwalk and is expected to be completed in approximately three years.
