Stamford, Connecticut - Connecticut Department of Transportation
officials have announced that motorists are to be advised that the
I-95 North on-ramp at Canal Street is scheduled to be closed on
or about September 29, 2004 through approximately December 10, 2004.
The closure is necessary for the reconstruction of the bridge that
carries
I-95 over Elm Street.
Once the ramp is closed, traffic will be detoured along South State
Street east to the I-95 North on-ramp at Elm Street. Additionally,
two alternate routes will be signed to divert motorists around the
closed I-95 North on-ramp at Canal Street.
SUGGESTED ALTERNATE ROUTES TO I-95 NORTH
· From Stamford Central Business District: Follow U.S. Route
1 north to Elm Street south to the I-95 North on-ramp at Elm Street.
· From south of I-95 and east of the Stamford Transportation
Center: Follow Jefferson Street and Myrtle Avenue east to U.S. Route
1 north to the I-95 North on-ramp at Exit 9.
Detour signs and alternate route signs will be posted on city streets
to assist motorists. Commuters are also reminded that Route 15 (Merritt
Parkway) can be used to travel north of Stamford and can be accessed
from Long Ridge and High Ridge Roads.
This project, involving the reconstruction of the median, resurfacing
of I-95 and bridge rehabilitation through Stamford, is estimated
to be completed by July 2005.
