December 5, 2002

Bridgeport, Connecticut- Connecticut Department of Transportation officials have announced that the ramp to I-95 southbound from East Main Street will be temporarily closed beginning on or about December 5, 2002, through Wednesday, January 15, 2003, as progress continues on the I-95 Bridgeport Rehabilitation Program.

The closure is necessary as crews enter into the next phase of construction of the Bridgeport Harbor Bridge, which will be completed on January 29, 2003. Accordingly, the southbound lanes on I-95 will be relocated to the center of the roadway section at this time. The five-week closure of the East Main Street ramp is required to facilitate the above noted traffic switch.

During the closure period, motorists are advised to follow the posted detour to the Seaview Avenue entrance ramp at Interchange 29. After January 15, 2003, a new temporary ramp from Waterview Avenue will be opened. The detour route to access I-95 southbound will be revised at this time.

In addition, there will be intermittent closures of the following ramps during the course of this closure. These closures are scheduled for December 5, 2002. In case of inclement weather conditions, the closures will be re-scheduled for Friday, December 6, 2002 or Monday, December 9, 2002.

I-95 southbound Exit 27, Lafayette Boulevard, and Exit 27A, Route 8& 25 northbound, will be closed to traffic beginning at 1:30 am until 6:00 am, Friday, December 6, 2002. This closure is to construct the new alignment from I-95 southbound. Motorists are asked to follow the posted detour to Exit 26 (Wordin Avenue).

Detour for Exit 27A, Route 8&25, northbound:
Follow posted detour to Exit 26 (Wordin Avenue). At the end of the ramp, left turn onto Wordin Avenue and proceed under I-95. First left for the entrance to I-95 northbound. Proceed to Exit 27A.

Detour for Exit 27, Lafayette Boulevard:
Follow posted detour to Exit 26 Wordin Avenue. Follow directions above. Once on I-95 northbound, take Exit 27, Lafayette Street. Proceed to second traffic signal to Lafayette Street/Boulevard.
