Stamford Train Station Enhancement Program
The location of the corporate shuttle bus pickups and drop-offs
at the Stewart B. McKinney Transportation Center has been relocated
from the taxi lane at station place on the south side of the station
to the gateway, just off of North State Street.
This change was made in an effort to reduce rush hour traffic in
the taxi area and to accommodate the upcoming parking garage construction
on station place.
The
Stamford Train Station Pedestrian Tunnel is planned to be closed
beginning on Monday, May 5th at 9:00pm to complete tunnel construction.
The closure is planned to last 4 weeks.
Washington Boulevard will be closed between South State Street and Station
Place, where it passes under the Metro-North Railroad tracks, beginning
at 10:00 PM on Friday, May 2, 2003 through 6:00 AM on Monday, May
5. If possible, the road will be reopened earlier. During this closure,
the temporary paving will be removed and the wider roadway section
will be constructed and paved.
Motorists
should follow posted alternate routes to bypass the closed roadway.
Alternate routes will be as follows:
- On
Washington Blvd. southbound, turn left on South State Street, then
right on Atlantic Street, then right onto Henry Street to return
to Washington Blvd. south of the closure. To reach the train station
and other Station Place facilities, follow the alternate route onto
Atlantic Street, then turn right onto Station Place.
- On Washington Blvd. northbound, turn right onto Henry Street,
then left onto Atlantic Street, then left onto North State Street
to return to Washington Blvd. north of the closure. To reach the
train station and other Station Place facilities, turn right from
Washington Boulevard onto Station Place.
The
pedestrian walkway on Washington Boulevard will be open during this
work. Pedestrians will also be able to cross the railroad using
the train station concourse or Atlantic Street to the east of the
station.
With
this construction work on Washington Boulevard, there may also be
closures of one southbound lane and/or one northbound lane of traffic
under the bridge from May 5 through May 9, during the work hours
of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM daily.
Traffic control personnel will be directing traffic and pedestrians during
the construction operations. Access to Metro Center, and the Metro
Center and Train Station parking garages will be available from
Washington Boulevard and from Atlantic Street.
Please Note
Many road projects are weather sensitive; lane closures and
other traffic restrictions may be changed or cancelled, without
notice, in the event of inclement weather.
