A Guaranteed Ride Home program is one of the simplest and most effective elements of any commute program.
The fear of being stranded at work without a car is one of the strongest deterrents to commuting by carpool, vanpool, or public transit. Now you can provide your employees with a taxi ride home when they are faced with a legitimate emergency at home or unscheduled authorized overtime. MetroPool's turn key program makes it easy. Within fifteen minutes of the call to the taxi, your employee will be on his/her way home with a voucher in hand that will cover the fare. A low-cost benefit with a big payoff and peace of mind for your employees.

MetroPool, Inc., is a non-profit company that provides free commuter services to employers in Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange and Ulster Counties in New York. MetroPool's services are provided with the support of the Connecticut and New York Departments of Transportation.

MetroPool Makes the Program Work For You...
MetroPool will set up and administer a Guaranteed Ride Home program for you at no cost, relieving you of most of the work. MetroPool will arrange with a taxi provider to serve your employees needs. MetroPool will handle all the arrangements for you- provide you with vouchers, help you market the program to your employees, and pay the cab company for services. Cab fares are metered and include a 15% gratuity. MetroPool will provide you with a monthly invoice and quarterly activity summary.

And For Your Employees
An eligible employee, cleared by a supervisor, requests the Guaranteed Ride Home service from your company's Transportation Coordinator (or other designated contact at your site). The coordinator calls the taxi and completes the travel voucher supplied by MetroPool. The coordinator retains the pink copy of the voucher. The employee takes two copies (white and yellow) of the voucher, which the taxi driver and employee sign when the trip is completed. The metered fare for the trip is recorded. The taxi driver keeps the yellow copy. The employee turns the white copy over to the coordinator when he/she returns to work; this copy is then sent to MetroPool, authorizing payment to the taxi company. No cash is involved in the trip! MetroPool pays the taxi company and bills you monthly.

You Determine Eligibility
You control who can use the Guaranteed Ride Home program. To encourage ridesharing, most employers confine the service to employees who (1) commute to work by carpool, vanpool, mass transit, bicycle, or walking at least once a week and (2) have an emergency at home or are asked to work unscheduled overtime. Eligibility is purely your decision- MetroPool's role is to help you carry out the program.

A Low Cost Employee Benefit

MetroPool's experience with other employers is that the out-of-pocket cost for a Guaranteed Ride Home program is minimal. Emergencies happen very infrequently and there is an element of monitoring built into the program to minimize abuse.
