MetroPool
makes starting and operating an employee commute program easy!
MetroPool offers employers a wealth of information and valuable
services which help employees find the best way to travel
to work. These services are available to employers at no charge,
thanks to the support of the Connecticut and New York Departments
of Transportation. Best of all, employers hardly have to lift
a finger. MetroPool does virtually all the work of implementing
these services. We only ask two things of every employer,
though: 1) make a commitment to support your program, and
2) appoint an on-site employee Transportation Coordinator
(T.C.) to serve as a primary contact for MetroPool staff. That's
it! MetroPool takes a simple, straightforward attitude toward
service: we do it all. It's our way of helping employers and
their employees realize the many benefits of a good commute
program. Look at everything MetroPool offers!
On-Site Technical Assistance
MetroPool staff identifies available commute options (such
as carpooling, vanpooling, transit, walking and bicycling,
and telecommuting), identifies appropriate program strategies
and services, then develops customized promotional materials.
MetroPool continues the relationship with the employer by
providing ongoing program evaluation and consultation.
Ridematching Services
MetroPool works with each employer to gather information from
employees about their commute trips. Then MetroPool and the
employer determine the most appropriate approach to matching
employees for potential carpools, and vanpools.
The Commuters' Register: Commuter Classifieds
While MetroPool's employer-based ridematching services are
very effective, commuters can add to their list of prospective
carpool or vanpool partners by using the ridesharing classified
ads in The Commuters' Register. This monthly publication expands
the information resources available to commuters, and offers
employees a tool to help them manage their own commute choices.
Carpool Formation
A carpool is the easiest ridesharing arrangement of all, but
a little support can keep it moving on the road to success.
MetroPool helps employers promote carpools, helps identify
potential carpool groups, offers route planning and other
assistance to carpool groups, and finds new riders when necessary.
Vanpool Formation
Put two or three carpool groups together in one van and presto,
you get a vanpool. MetroPool assists employers in forming
vanpools, taking care of driver and rider orientation, facilitating
van delivery, and getting the new vanpool group together and
on the road.
Shuttle Formation
Transit is a terrific commute option, but trains and buses
can't always stop conveniently close to every worksite. MetroPool
can help employers organize a shuttle service to nearby transit
stations so employees can make their rail and bus connections
in a timely manner.
Transportation Days
To raise commuters' awareness about their options, MetroPool
organizes on-site Transportation Days. These events help foster
enthusiasm for transportation alternatives, and facilitate
employee commute information gathering.
Guaranteed Ride Home Programs
To minimize the reluctance by some employees to leave their
cars at home and rideshare or use transit, MetroPool offers
a program that will whisk employees home in an emergency via
a local taxi service. MetroPool works with each employer to
determine employee eligibility, internal administrative procedures,
and provide for ongoing evaluation to track program use.
Commuter Information Centers
Both the Connecticut and New York Departments of Transportation
provide free information kiosks to employers which attract
employee attention to commute options and offers one-stop
shopping for commuter information. MetroPool sends participating
employers a monthly packet of information (to replenish the
kiosks with up-to-date material.)
Promotional Materials
Employers can take full advantage of MetroPool's store house
of information for employees on everything from ridesharing
and transit to park & ride lots and commute cost comparisons.
In addition to printed brochures, MetroPool can give employers
promotional material on disk in order to adapt materials for
their own use.
Custom Promotional Materials
Sometimes an employer wants to distribute material to employees
that would be specifically tailored to issues, perspectives,
or opportunities unique to that company. Employers can tap
MetroPool's expertise in developing promotional literature
for commuters to produce need-specific promo pieces at cost.

Company Relocation Services
MetroPool provides commute services for companies who are
relocating, including route planning and commute option identification,
marketing and employee meetings, and follow-up. These custom
tailored programs help employers alleviate the burden of relocation
and retain valuable employees.
How-To Guides
MetroPool periodically publishes "Smart Guides" on how to
implement a ridesharing program, on-site marketing, telecommuting
and a variety of other topics. The Guides offer tips, tear-out
flyers, forms, sample policies and other useful resources
an employer can lift and incorporate into the commute program.
SMART Talk and Commuter Connections Newsletters
To provide Transportation Coordinators with a regular
source of new program ideas, MetroPool publishes the SMART
Talk newsletter. This publication keeps the employer's key
transportation contact updated about new service start-ups,
changes and workshop schedules. In addition,
employers and policy makers receive MetroPool's Commuter Connections
newsletter updating them on regional transportation issues.
Transportaion Coordinator Workshops
Transportation Coordinators serve as an invaluable
link between the employer and MetroPool. So MetroPool provides
basic orientations followed by ongoing training workshops
to help T.C.s through the learning curve and expand their knowledge
in order to better assist employees.
Transporation Coordinator Networking Opportunities
In addition to learning from MetroPool, T.C.s gain a lot of
insight, support, and new information from other T.C.s
Direct Commuter Services
MetroPool also provides services directly to commuters. These
include personalized over-the-phone commute information; over-the-phone
computer based ridematching for carpools and vanpools; The
Commuters' Register newspaper; as well as carpooling tips
and vanpool information.
MetroPool Is On-Line, Too!

Internet. Just set your web browser to www.metropool.com.
How to Be a Commuter-Friendly Workplace
Learn how certain policies and incentives can reduce commute
trips. MetroPool guides employers interested in using tax-free,
tax deductible subsidies (like TransitChek vouchers and Commuter
Bucks), preferred parking, universal gas card, and commuter
allowance programs to shift drive-alone commuters into ridesharing,
transit, biking, walking, and other options.
Benefit from MetroPool's Experience
MetroPool long ago recognized that employers need no-cost,
turn key programs that require little time or effort to implement.
Almost two decades and nearly 1,000 employers later, MetroPool
still offers commute program services that meet the needs
of today's companies in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess,
Orange, and Ulster Counties in New York, and Fairfield County,
Connecticut.
For a no-hassle, no-cost,
no-risk approach to commuter services, call MetroPool today
