Bridgeport, Connecticut - Connecticut Department of Transportation
officials have announced that motorists are to be advised that a
traffic switch onto the newly constructed roadway is scheduled to
take place on I-95 southbound, between Exit 26 (Wordin Avenue) and
Exit 25 (Fairfield Avenue) overnight on Tuesday, September 7, 2004.
This traffic switch will discontinue the use of the temporary bridge
that replaced the Howard Avenue Bridge destroyed by fire from an
incident on the highway on March 25, 2004. Motorists are also advised
that the entrance ramp to I-95 southbound from Wordin Avenue will
remain closed after this switch.
In association with the traffic switch, the southbound Exit 26
off-ramp to Wordin Avenue will be closed from 11 p.m. to
5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via Exit 25. Signs, including variable
message signs, and traffic personnel will be utilized to direct
motorists through the detour. Variable message signs will also be
utilized to inform motorists of the traffic switch.
The traffic switch and ramp closure will take place, weather permitting.
In case of inclement weather, the work will be performed on Wednesday,
September 8, 2004.
Motorists are urged to proceed with caution and obey the posted
45-mph speed limit, established in 1997, for the Bridgeport Corridor
construction zone, which spans from Exit 24 to Exit 30 northbound
and southbound on I-95.
