HART ANNOUNCES NEW LOOP BUS, AND INCREASED NIGHT & SUNDAY SERVICE TO REGION
Press Release Date: March 11, 2003
The Housatonic
Area Regional Transit District (HART) and Northwest Connecticut
JobLinks program are pleased to announce the addition of a new evening
and Sunday route. The new route, The Newtown Rd - South Street LOOP,
is scheduled to begin operation on Monday, March 24th.
The new evening LOOP will add service to areas that are already being served
during the day but not served during the evenings or on Sunday. “There
has been a long term need for public transportation after hours in
greater Danbury.
This is a major priority for HART, and we are pleased to be able to provide
this new service.” said Eric Bergstraesser, HART’s Executive Director.
This is the fifth consecutive year in which HART has added transit service.
The Newtown
Rd - South Street LOOP covers part of the New Milford LOOP route
and expands services north to the Bethel town line. Major stops
along this new evening route are: Downtown Danbury, Division Street,
Coal Pit
Road, White Street, the Berkshire Shopping Center, and Stony Hill. Fares are
just $1.00 for adults; we also offer discounted fares for students, elderly
and disabled.
The
addition of the new evening LOOP route allowed
a reconfiguration of the two existing evening
LOOP routes: the New Milford LOOP, and the Mall
LOOP
(now called Mall-Hospital LOOP).
For a detailed schedule of the changes to
these LOOP services, please call...
HART at 748-2034, or visit www.hartct.org.
The Newtown
Road-South Street, the New Milford and the Mall-Hospital LOOP routes
run weeknights from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm, Saturday nights 5:30 pm
to 10:30 pm, and Sundays and Holidays from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm.
In addition to the above-mentioned services, HART also operates SweetHART,
the CityCenter Trolley, the Danbury-Brewster Shuttle, Ridgefield LOOP, Ridgefield-Katonah
Shuttle, the Danbury-Norwalk Route 7 Link and seven fixed routes throughout
the Greater Danbury Area.
The LOOP is operated by the Housatonic Area Regional Transit with the financial
support of the Waterbury Workforce Investment Board, the Connecticut Department
of Transportation, and the Federal Transit
Administration through the Northwest Connecticut JobLinks program. The goal
of JobLinks is to provide low-income and other residents with affordable and
accessible transportation to and from work in Torrington, Danbury and Waterbury.
Public assistance recipients and low-income workers who are eligible can register
for temporary assistance with work-related transportation through job developers,
temporary agencies and other referral sources.
