New Transportation Guide Set for Release
Redesigned Guide includes Take-along County Transit Map

GOSHEN, NY February 20, 2004 -- On February 29, the New York State Department of Transportation and Orange County Planning Department will release a completely redesigned transportation guide with a host of new features of particular interest to area public transit riders and commuters.

Titled "From Here to There," the popular guide has been reissued in a new format from earlier editions. Although it packs in much of the same information as previous editions, including local schedules for trains and buses the new guide also features how-to’s and links for carpooling, new ride-matching services, vanpool programs and Dial-A-Bus paratransit services, along with a glossy pull-out map highlighting transit routes and Shortline/Coach USA coupons for bus travel to and from New York City.

The 24-page guide includes a full-color map highlighting transit routes to dozens of popular destinations, including shopping, leisure, airports and park and ride commuter lots. There's information about reduced fares and wheelchair accessible service for elderly and disabled travelers.

Contact information for more than a dozen transit operators large and small is provided, along with other useful phone numbers and web sites, including ride matching and vanpool services via MetroPool, Inc. at 1-800-FIND RIDE.

"This publication is an important part of our efforts to improve the dissemination of transit information," said Kate Schmidt, Transportation Planner. "We’ve also included a survey card for the first time, to encourage feedback and new ideas from the public."

The guide is free, and will be distributed in the February 29 edition of the Times-Herald Record. In addition, copies will be available at area libraries and municipal buildings and may also be requested via e-mail [email protected], fax (845) 291-2533 or phone at (845) 291-2318. The guide will be available online at www.orangecountygov.com/planning/transguide (2.7 MB PDF).
