Tips for Riding the Train Plan your trip before you travel. You can contact MTA Metro-North by phone or online for information about schedules, fares, and parking at the train station:

Here are some things you should know before you go:
Check the station location. Visit Metro-North’s web site and you’ll find information about station parking and connecting service to the station (buses, ferries and taxis).
Trains operate seven days a week and on holidays. During the week, hours of operation are approximately 4AM to 2AM, with service intervals (the time between trains) between 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the time of day.
Purchasing your ticket. Buy any ticket at a ticket office or easy-to-use ticket machine at the station. You can use cash or a major credit or debit card. WebTicket is a convenient way to buy tickets online (www.mta.info). Use any major credit card; postage is free and tickets arrive 2-3 days after you place your order. Purchasing your ticket on board the train is a cash-only transaction and is the most expensive ticket-purchasing option.
"My commute is one hour each way and that really gets to be a grind when you’re doing it alone day in and day out. It’s also very expensive when you’re putting more than 100 miles on your car every day. I really like meeting new people and interacting with them and I have formed a very nice friendship with my carpool partner. We signed up for a yoga class after work together, which is great since we’re ready to leave at the same time. For me, carpooling is a huge relief from the stress of driving alone."
