| Your Commute Can Be Costly
This calculator estimates your daily commute costs when driving alone. The estimate is based on the IRS estimated cost of 58.5¢ per mile to operate an average car. Over a year, those commuting costs can add up to a significant expense. To find out what your commute costs per month, based on a work schedule of 21 days per month, use the following formula.
commute costs per month = miles commuted per day × .585 × 21
For Example:
Someone who commutes 40 miles a day to work (20 miles each way).
commute costs per month = 40 × .585 × 21
commute costs per month = $491.40
