Manhattan to Westchester County?
No Problem!
When New York Life Insurance decided to transfer major portions of its operations from Manhattan to Sleepy Hollow in Westchester, many employees were faced with a quandary: How to get to work? Taking Metro-North was one option, but it wasn’t the choice for everyone. After consulting with MetroPool, the company found a satisfying solution: vanpooling.
MetroPool worked with human resources to plan the optimum commuting solution for employees. Two years later, New York Life Insurance has 96 employees who utilize 14 vanpools. Increasing the pool of possible employees, vans originate from all over the New York metro area. Some of the points of origination include: Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island and New Jersey.
"Relocations often force companies to examine how they intend to hold on to their most valued resource, their work force. At MetroPool, we have field staff that assists companies in making these decisions on a daily basis," said John Lyons, President and CEO of MetroPool, Inc. "The New York State Department of Transportation offers a menu of commuting solutions, which we administer, that can make a corporate relocation almost seamless."
In addition to vanpooling, New York Life has implemented other commute solutions that have made the transition quite comfortable. One hundred thirty employees currently use shuttles, vans that transport employees to and from the train station and 475 employees use public transit.Â
