COMMUTER SERVICES - commute options
MetroPool will help you find the commute option that's right for you... free of charge!

Carpooling
Carpooling can be done on a full or part-time basis. Since two or three commuters travel together, it's a great camaraderie builder. The best candidates work set hours or can adjust their schedules to accommodate the carpool. Participants are able to split costs, share driving and save their personal vehicles from wear and tear.

Vanpooling
Vanpools are usually a bit more structured than carpools, and are generally comprised of commuters who live farther from the workplace. Groups of seven to fifteen ride together, and ideally work fixed hours.

Bus
Taking the bus can provide a convenient, low-cost commute for employees. MetroPool will advise bus-riding candidates of the best routes to travel, connect them with the appropriate transit operator and provide schedules for distribution at the workplace.

Train
The train is a reliable commute choice and a relaxing alternative to driving. Public transit shuttles from home or area park-and-ride lots and between the train station and major employment areas provide excellent access to the train for many area commuters.

Bicycling and Walking
Too simple? Perhaps. But it's not uncommon for people to drive to work even if they live within walking distance. Walking and biking become popular choices that, when combined, can significantly expand your free time. This is an ideal commute option for work sites that are equipped with showers and lockers. MetroPool can help you find a biking or walking buddy to join you on your commute.

Compressed Work Week
With a compressed work week, employees get one day off every week or they work nine days every two weeks. They make up the time on the days they're in the office. For certain types of businesses, the compressed work week comes with built-in advantages. Customer service hours can be extended and communication with customers or facilities in different time zones improves relationships. The four-day work week is also a great morale builder.

Telecommuting
For certain businesses, the "virtual office" has already become a reality. A well-organized, experienced and motivated employee with some portable tasks and a phone line is all it takes to increase productivity and reduce overhead expenses. Telecommuters usually work from home one to three days per week.

MOBILITY MATTERS
"My commute is one hour each way and that really gets to be a grind when you’re doing it alone day in and day out. It’s also very expensive when you’re putting more than 100 miles on your car every day. I really like meeting new people and interacting with them and I have formed a very nice friendship with my carpool partner. We signed up for a yoga class after work together, which is great since we’re ready to leave at the same time. For me, carpooling is a huge relief from the stress of driving alone."
